John M. English

John English, a life-long resident of St. Clair County, was graduated Magna Cum Laude from St. Benedict’s College prior to serving in the U.S. Army (1969-71). Before obtaining his law degree, he worked for the Boiler Makers Local 363. John earned his law degree from St. Louis University School of Law in 1974.

Mr. English has been a full time Assistant State’s Attorney for St. Clair County and served as Chief Prosecutor in 1976. He then entered private practice while retaining a Special Assistant’s position with the State’s Attorneys office for another approximately 13 years. He has been a member of the law firm since 1982. He has also served as special investigator for the State’s Attorneys office for St. Clair County.

He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Illinois Trial lawyers Association. He has served as President on both the St. Clair County Bar Association and the East St. Louis Bar Association. He has served as a Director for the Illinois State Bar Foundation and serves on the Pro Bono Project for the Land of Lincoln Assistance Foundation sponsored by the St. Clair County Bar Association. In addition to an active law practice, he serves as a school board attorney for the Althoff Catholic High School in Belleville and serves as a director for the Southern Illinois Area Credit Union. Mr. English’s other affiliations include membership in the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion, as well as the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

He and his wife, Angie, reside in Belleville with their three children: Christopher, Jocelyn and Alex.
